The mission of The Sigma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is “Service to All Mankind.” Over the years, this mission has been realized as Sigma Theta Omega Chapter has awarded over $80,000 in scholarships in honor of Gertrude Lockhart Melchior to students of the St. Thomas/St. John school district. This year we intend to continue this service by awarding scholarships to deserving students who are pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university.

To be eligible for the Gertrude Lockhart Melchior Scholarship, the applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of a 78.00 or higher, complete an essay, show evidence of leadership qualities, submit two (2) letters of recommendations, one (1) personal statement, high school transcript, an acceptance letter from an accredited college or university and be interviewed.
