Happy and Prosperous New Year!

 

It is with great honor, privilege and sincere humility, that I greet you this year as the new President of Sigma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This will be an exciting time as we are embracing several significant changes in our great sisterhood.

 

In July 2014, we welcomed our new International President, Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, along with her new administration. Beginning this month, we will be launching her new international program initiative, “Launching New Dimensions of Service”. Additionally, we are planning for the rapidly approaching 107th Anniversary of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where our sorority’s legacy will continue on into perpetuity.

 

This wave of exciting change is also occurring on our local level as this year Sigma Theta Omega Chapter celebrates a milestone in its own history, our 25th Anniversary as a chapter. This year, we will acknowledge the foresight, vision and hard work of our charter members who created Sigma Theta Omega, to provide our community with service programs while solidifying the bonds of sisterhood.

 

Sorors, as your President, it is my intention to ensure that we work together to reaffirm our commitment to uphold the ideals and tenants of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. through our words and deeds.  Let us commit to taking everything that we do “one step further”, whether we are hosting ASCEND, the Virgin Islands Arts Festival, feeding the hungry, donating backpacks, walking in support of breast cancer awareness or marching for peace. In all we do, let us ensure that we ask ourselves, how can we take this initiative just one step further to exceed our goals of the past?

 

I sincerely look forward working with each one of you to make certain that our Chapter continues to be of “Service to All Mankind” –in unity, love and sisterhood.
